Journals of a Penguin: Fedora 7 Delayed …again

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

I was hoping the by the time I woke up, I can start downloading the ISOs. But when I checked the schedule, they moved it again to next week (the 31st).

I’m a bit disappointed but that’s okay because the computer that I’ll use to backup my files is broken. I was just hoping to get a peek at the new startup screen and default wallpaper.

More disappointment while writing this. I broke my own excitement by searching for the previews. It now looks less evil and more child-friendly (because of the OLPC Project?). I like FC6’s appearance better. Gnome looks a little bit slicker though.

There is nothing else to expect but a couple of improvements. Maybe I expected too much (new init and/or faster bootup). This is just a bad week.

There is good news but it doesn’t benefit me. The PS3 is officially supported.

I’m just guessing what that word really means. I’m pretending that I got tagged since I’m not much of a popular person. Migs Paraz tagged PinoyTechScene where this blog is also aggregated.

I’m supposed to disclose six weird things about me.

  1. I fart a lot. It makes sense. I eat a lot of peanuts, eggs and beans.
  2. I enjoy picking my nose. It’s like a stress reliever.
  3. I like to believe that I have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and Attention Deficiency Disorder.
  4. I have scoliosis. You didn’t notice?
  5. I used to do gymnastics. Hey, it made me lose a lot of weight and my back handsprings are wonderful.
  6. I can’t stand still I barely finish anything. Mix in laziness and you’ve got the perfect combination.

I’m going to cheat the process of choosing whom to tag. Coming up with those stuff is hard enough. I’m tagging DLS-C people where this blog is also aggregated.

Go.

Rearranged

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

Two weeks ago, I got the chance to clean my room. The last time I did this was half a year ago. I was supposed to blog about it earlier but you know me, the great procrastinator. Then I saw Vance’s rig and the Nashman’s tour of his crib. I thought to myself, “I didn’t do much of a bad job at all.” (ha ha, just kidding)

I’ll skip the boring description and give you a photo that is just as boring.

The books on the left are (from top to bottom) Things My Girlfriend and I Have Argued About, Database System Concepts by Silberschatz et al (I need it for quick reference), McDonald’s: Behind the Arches and the famous TC7. The drum on top of them is from Boracay.

At the right is How Would You Move Mount Fuji and below it are more reference that I need at hand (sometimes print is better). The little black thing near it contains pens, business cards, an ID and other stuff that I might need.

This is so hard to accomplish because I’m such a pack rat. I barely throw away stuff (even plastic bags and most reciepts).

I learned to use this cool invention called “desk drawers” that comes as a bonus feature for my desk. Cleaning it was easy. All I had to do was pull it out and throw away all the junk I collected from the past 6 years. I still have to clear out the other one though.

But I’m not done yet. I want to get a USB hub, an extra mouse and an iPod dock so I don’t have to unplug and forget stuff. I’m also waiting for decent wireless/cordless speakers.

I also cleaned the mini-NOC downstairs but that’s another story. Got lots of ideas from Lifehacker. For now, I’m still cleaning up once a week. Hopefully, I keep this habit.

Call Me Irresponsible and Selfish

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

This is my response to the numerous reminders and subtle angst directed to me regarding my picture for the yearbook.

I guess it’s time I responded. Teehee. I have read every single
message and still have them in my inbox.

I can still remember how I insisted that all pioneers be included in
the yearbook before the committees were formed. I realized how
difficult it would be if I had to go through the same process again.
That’s just my theory.

I already told Wendy that the picture and profile is the least of my
priorities. I do have a lot of time at hand but I have better things
to do than take a picture.

I remember an exchange of text messages with W****** to just skip me on
the yearbook. I told her I don’t mind. R****** is in the team, right? Ask
him. I told him the same thing. Twice.

It’s a win-win situation. Less costs, work and worries for both
parties. Besides, I do not think that I’m an important person (or want
to be). I’m not even important enough to be in the yearbook. Trust me,
mabababoy lang yan lalo kapag nandyan picture ko. :-)

Cheers!

Notice how many times I wrote “I”. I don’t really have anything else smart to say because I know it’s my fault. I’m still trying to figure out how I can get away without paying and taking the friggin’ picture.

I can’t wait for the reply.

The Long Wait is Over …Almost

I’m pretty sure you’ve read about the Starcraft II announcement by now. The CGI trailer is amazing. Heyl. It sure is about toim.

This is also the first time where I’m using a gameplay screen cap as a wallpaper. The graphics are amazing! Like other geeks and gamers on the planet, I’m dehydrated due to excessive drooling and I’m still pissing on my pants.

But don’t get that excited yet. You have to see the preview of Starcraft III!

Here are some gameplay footage (via cow).

Things I Thought I Didn’t Like (TITIDL): #1 MyBlogLog

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

When I first saw MyBlogLog, I thought, “wow, that’s cool but I wouldn’t want to use it.” I really don’t like little things popping out everytime my mouse hovers a link (remember Snap?).

I signed up sometime ago. You can choose the widget to put on your blog. I like their stats thing. It’s weird, I seem to like numbers but not math. Anyway, I used to hide its widget but now I show it.

It’s great for finding new blogs and it’s also bi-directional since other people know you visited this blog. I got to use it for communicating with someone else too.

You can also add your twitter thing. Here’s a feature that stalkers will like: an option to hide if you’re reading a certain blog.

David and Paul

Friday, May 18th, 2007

I’m not a PLUG member nor personally know Mr. Falcone but let me just share this with you (written by the mom).

David Izek and Paul Franco are premature twin babies who need your help and prayer. Born Feb.15,2007 on my 7th month of pregnancy. During my 2nd month, we were told that my chances of giving birth early is 90% but I was given medication. January, on my 6th month I felt am unbearably abdominal pain, so i had to be confined for 3 days. On Feb 8, just in time for my check up, the pain went back and this time w/ bleeding. So I had to be confined again. My blood pressure was 160/80, abnormal edema gestational diabetes and pre eclampsia.

I was not allowed to go home, till I gave birth last Feb 15. David weighed 1.1kg and Paul weighed 730grams. Since they were premature, they were susceptible to all kinds of bacterial infection and sickness. David had hematoma. Paul was sickly, experienced apnea and bacterial infections after another. We were not able to update the hospital bills because we were on cash basis. Lab tests & medicines had to be paid first before given. The tests amounts to 3,000PHP-5,000PHP a day.

Spread the love. Learn more from here.
