Let’s face it, the GAIM/Pigdin icons are not that, er, nice. There’s still hope. You can have prettier icons on your buddy list. I know looks don’t matter that much but let’s make the experience more interesting. Here’s how:

1. Get a fancy icon from deviantart (dock icons work best)
2. Resize it to 48×48 and save it as PNG
3. Copy and overwrite it to /usr/share/pixmaps/gaim/status/default with the intended protocol icon

You have to overwrite the old file (e.g. yahoo.png for Yahoo! IM or msn.png for MSN/Windows Live). The change is also applied to Guifications.
