Statistics

I always monitor my blog’s traffic. For some reason, it became some habit. Yesterday, I noticed that the single post pages are not monitored by the tools that I use. And those are Bravenet’s Hit Counter, PinoyTopBlogs, ClustrMaps and our very own DLSC iTopSites. I placed the needed code snippets and checked if the data would be any different.

I’m surprised by the results. That spike is huge! For January 8 (GMT+8), I got 105 unique hits. If this goes on constantly for a month and considering that weekends shows 50%-75% lesser traffic, I’d get around 2,900 unique hits per month.

Because I’m a lazy slob, I seldom played around with the template and didn’t think that the single post pages are the ones linked by the feed and search engine result pages. What’s the top referring search query from Google right now? Maria Ozawa!

The Google Reader “Trends” thing is cool. This is the top 10 in my reading trends for the past 30 days:

  1. Dvorak Uncensored
  2. Fleshbot
  3. Lifehacker
  4. Scobleizer
  5. Nick Starr
  6. Ambot ah! (aka yugatech)
  7. Ad Astra by joelogs
  8. The Dilbert Blog by Scott Adams
  9. Iris Dassault Blog
  10. LinuxDevices.com
  11. Ajaxian
  12. Random Thoughts by The Nashman

Okay, so that’s 12. I wanted to skew it so that Sir Nash’s journal is included. Obviously, the most read blogs are those most updated. This list is filtered because some of them really don’t count as blogs like certain Flickr photo feeds and my comic strip feed.

I’m subscribed to so many feeds, I wake up with over 80 new items every morning. I sort of have OCD because I want to read every single item because each item has its own unique opinion about something. But recently, I figured out that reading feeds takes too much of my time (like 3 hours a day). So I just skim the items that are on the same specific topic with something that I read in the day. Usually, I open the link just to read the comments.

I also figured out that it’s more encouraging to read posts that have 1-3 paragraphs because they give me that illusion that it’ll take less time to read (and it gives me that feeling of accomplishment when I reduce my unread items to 30). I guess I can say that reading feeds has taken the time I spend for TV or playing video games.

If you use Google Reader, you can access your Trends page here.

For the last part, I read the most items at 1-2AM and the least at 4-5AM. Second to the “busiest” time for reading posts is from 11AM then decreases to a steady pace in the afternoon (when I multi-task).

sepsep. i know you read my journal only for its porno content.

ooh, watching steve jobs’ keynote address unveiling the iphone made me wet with excitement over the multi-touch screen feature.

Except for the toilet shots, I am after the porno content. It’s even better than Fleshbot!

The multi-touch screen features of the iPhone are cool. Zooming pictures with two fingers isn’t new but it’s great to see it get to the mainstream consumers. They say three fingers can give the most pleasure.

This is this kind of a great resource that you are supplying and you give it away for totally free. I appreciate seeing sites that realize the value of delivering a prime resource for free. I really loved reading your post. Thanks!
