Another path for my career

We had one discussion during algorithm complexities class if it was possible to teach in DLS-C after graduating. If you look at all my posts categorized under “DLS-Canlubang”, they’re all hate-posts. There was even one occasion that somebody was searching for tuition and fees for DLS-C and ended up on one of my posts.

But I love my alma matter as much as I hate it. I am considering part-time teaching. I tried that before and I suck at it. I also have bad people skills. So I want to experiment and to improve these weaknesses. I want to try a new method of (or improve) teaching. I want to incorporate blogging, podcasting, or wikis.

I was thinking if it’s possible to record the writings on the whiteboard. Maybe a glass-like material that can be projected with an image from behind. Then it will be used with a special pen that that acts like a stylus (or a real stylus only on a larger scale). Then all those writings could be recorded and interleaved with a recorded audio track of the lecture.

This stylus can have so much use it can act like a mouse and switch between the whiteboard, a slide presentation, and other “saved” whiteboards. Unlimited whiteboards is extremely cool for teachers.

It would be really cool if somebody could experiment with something like this on my math courses. It wouldn’t matter if the lecture was too fast, I could pause and rewind back to the stuff that I missed when I listen to/watch the lecture at my home. A CBOX3 sounds interesting but I’d only need half of what it can do.

I’ll most likely be working in the business districts of the country then I’ll still be commuting from the metro to DLS-C. I chose DLS-C because that I noticed that you can make a huge mistake and still get away with it. It’s a good place to try out new things plus you get a lush natural view (although it’s too relaxing, it gets me staring sometimes). But (once again), if I were asked where I graduated, I couldn’t proudly say that I’m a “La Sallian”. A couple of students are going to have a bad future if this pushes through.

  • you can say that you're a "canlubanger", which i prefer more. for some reason i don't know why.

The fact that there isn't that much bureaucracy (read: path down which blame travels when something fouls up) in our campus, compared to Taft, is also one of its attractions for me, as well as the potential for technologically-oriented unconventional teaching methods, some of which you mentioned.
