The Last Step

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

I have my schedule for the next trimester (that is if I don’t flunk anything this term). I like it. I’ll be taking 12 units. This should allow me to work full time. Biology and chemistry lab doesn’t have a schedule yet but I requested for it to be on a Thursday. I hope there won’t be changes because I’m loving this one right now.

I'm a warrior, baby!

Just Dropping By to Say “Hi”

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

More than a month and a half later, Gaia sends her best wishes again. No school tomorrow (weee)! I’m optimistic that there’ll be no or minimal power outage since Milenyo took out most of the trees that could possibly cause damage. I’ll be charging my iPod and turn off my laptop tonight though. I read that “Reming” (internationally, Durian) is stronger than Milenyo.

Supertyphhon Reming (Durian) with gusts of up to 225kph

Look at that thing. It’s huge! Milenyo was only a pre-emptive strike. This is the real deal. Props to Dwight for the heads up. Heads up for people like me who don’t watch television.

Downgrade

Sunday, November 26th, 2006

I got my Sennheiser in-ear headphones replaced. The right earpiece stopped working and beyond remedy already. Replacing it is an Altec Lansing AHP-121 (oh so geeky). It’s 50 Pesos more expensive, .2m longer and has a smaller frequency response range.

The only reason I took this was that I couldn’t find other Sennheisers that has an equal length from the part where the wire splits. The old pair had the right earpiece longer so there are times where it falls off (not from my ear) and gets dragged on the floor. When will wireless headphones become cheaper?

The 121’s earpiece is bloody huge. The only thing I like about it is the reusable case. It keeps the wires from getting tangled. Isn’t it convenient? You buy headphones, but the most useful is not the product. Talk about “value added”. Sennheisers still have better sound.

They’re mediocre headphones. I’ll have to put up with it until it breaks.

PS3 vs Wii

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

Have you seen the Mac ads? If yes, you might want to see the Wii version. Based from what my friends prefer, the PS3 is going to click here in the Philippines. Only the hardcore gamers will get the XBOX 360 or the Wii here.

Me, I still don’t like game consoles. I didn’t even find Gameboys amusing. The only game console I had, like I said before, is the good ol’ Family Computer. I don’t even know how the PS3 and Wii looks like. What I’ll remember is that the Wii is some sexy and average-hottie gaming console.

Oh and yeah, the PS3 can run Linux and powered by 64-bit IBM RISC processors like the old Macs.

P.S. There are Japanese versions of the Mac ads that are funnier.

Bloglines Messed Up

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I’m giving Google Reader another chance. Bloglines was messed up during the weekend. The notifier wasn’t working right and it wasn’t showing new items. I think they’re playing around with the production system and I noticed that they go down often.

I tried Google Reader before but it didn’t hit me that well. I’m starting to get the hang of it now. I’m using the expanded view with only the updated subscriptions shown to give that Bloglines groove.

Here’s a demo on ScobleShow. Check it out if you want some headstart on the interface.

The only downside is there’s no desktop notifier like Bloglines’. I was expecting a Konfabulator (Yahoo! Widgets) widget. I didn’t realize how important web feeds are in my daily computing rituals.

LSS for 2006.11.21

Tuesday, November 21st, 2006

I’m starting another series like the bookmarks from my delicious thing. I don’t know how often I’ll do this but it sounds fun.

I have LSS for Spain. I think I’ve listened to ten variations of it. One by Al Jarreau and the remaining ones by Chick Corea featuring other artists. I still don’t know who the original composer is though. Ahhh, jazz standards.

I do hope that the band that played at FSAP’s graduation has an album. I liked the set that they played. I can’t remember the name of the band but I think it’s Four Piece Quintet or Five Piece Quartet. They played this song too.

Oh and this song was the finalé when I watched Chick Corea (Elektric Band) when I was in Hong Kong. It’s just great that you can insert a fill-in at any part of the song and still like it.

It would be great if the record companies or Amazon could provide samplers for songs. It’ll be viral to let the crowd share what they’re listening to. Here’s one of the albums by Chick Corea with Spain.

Change is Good

Monday, November 20th, 2006

Some depressing stuff happened a two weeks ago. Luckily, I have a lot of things to do to keep my mind clear. I’ve been living in our, err, living room (sleep, eat, work, etc) for the past month. I moved back to my room again and cleaned up. I guess this is my version of women getting a new hairdo after a break-up.

I’m rearranging my room. Maybe I could have better Chi. I could use more positive energy right now (heheh). Then last week, my brother was moved back to our old room (aka the room you need to pass through to get to the girls’ room).

I’m going to turn my brother’s part of the room to a den. I bought a chair and a half-whiteboard and half-corkboard this afternoon. I was hoping to get a desk too but I didn’t like the ones they had on stock. Now, I’m tempted to buy a new desktop with dual monitors. Or I might just upgrade desktop downstairs and replace it with a lower-class computer. It is unlikely that I’ll scratch those itching desires because I’m still waiting for graduation to see if I’ll move out.

I love the chaise from our old room. I used it this weekend and it’s way better when I’m watching movies. I’ll be getting window blinds sometime this week to complete the setup. I’m loving this time of the year despite the tragedy. The weather is just fantastic. Pictures will come in next week when I’m done (and when I get batteries for the camera).
