Spring Cleaning

Although I live in a place where we only have two seasons, I did some spring cleaning. Cleaning in an electronic (not virtual, that wouldn’t give smart people justice) sense. I had my laptop reformatted. Not everything though. I left my Gentoo installation intact.

My Windows installation is more than a year old and it reached a point where it’s really annoying. There are some things that I noticed after reinstallation of the stuff I use:

  • I do not need Crimson Editor anymore. I am now making love with gVim for Windows.
  • Yahoo! Messenger is now using less annoying alert sounds. I used to still use MSN Messenger‘s alert sounds.
  • The archived messages in my IM eats up 5MB.
  • If I don’t install the manufacturer drivers for my touchpad, I can use its scrolling feature on most applications like Firefox.
  • I don’t need a dock clone (RK Launcher) anymore. I’m using a better launcher called Launchy, which allows me to launch my applications without moving my hands from the keyboard.
  • MozBackup works like a charm. When I restored my browser’s profile, it felt like I was back where I left off.
  • I can now close my laptop’s lid and still have a functional keyboard after opening it.
  • Touchpad sounds like some kinky sex toy for narcissists.
